Why do Kennedys have so much power/influence considering they are not the sharpest tool in the shed?

For example that Kennedy lady who almost ran for senetor for NY - she automatically had the opportunity but as soon as she opened her mouth it was like so painful they had to get our out of there fast. Then John took the bar like 5 times and failed each time. They’re just not so sharp yet they get all the doors opened to them.
And then there’s senetor Ted Kennedy who has had a million DUIs and was close to running for president. List goes on.

    Good question and congrats for being a top contributor. You help us all.
    The kennedy tradition started in the early 1900’s when a kennedy in the family became very, very rich. YOu can just look up the kennedys on the internet and get the whole story.
    Because of that, say you got to be a multi multi millionaire your children and grandchildren would inherit the money.
    That would not mean that they would use it wisely, although they could.
    The kennedys have had so much tragedy but decided early on that public service was what they wanted to do. They are NOT better than anyone else they just have a huge name because they have a lot of money and have sent many of the family over 50 to top colleges.
    This has also happened because of the area where they live and work in public ways. They have become a family name in their state.
    They are an american icon of public service and think, whether you like them or not, it was based on public service, maybe for power, but like the bushes they chose to go that direction.
    I just had this conversation with my gf last night,

    I work and thankfully don’t live in Massachusetts. I moved here from the Midwest and have found it absolutely disturbing to see how the public school system has brainwashed these people. Many do think for themselves but a majority are as dimwitted as the Kennedy’s and believe everything they hear. Teacher’s in Massachusetts “Public” Schools are to blame for a big part of it.     Not that I’m a fan of the Kennedys, but its democracy in action.

    The people of whatever state, distict or whatever must think that the particular Kennedy they have is the best person for the job, or they wouldn’t have gotten through the primary and election process. Besides, it takes more than intelligence to be a good senator (communication skills, empathy, etc..) If it was just a matter of intelligence, we could just give everyone a test and the best score wins. Pythagoras

    That Kennedy lady is Caroline Kennedy- daughter of the late President John F Kennedy.

    One theory is that the head of the family (Joe), back in the day, signed a contract with the devil for fame, fortune, & power. And that is why they have such tragedy in their family.

    I wouldn’t ever say they aren’t smart. They have served the country very well, pushing thru many civil rights bills (JFK started- LBJ finished) and the creation of NASA.

    And to correct you on the late John F Kennedy, Jr- he passed the bar on his 3rd attempt. And he eventually opened and ran a successful magazine- never practiced law- so maybe he wasn’t that interested in the subject matter, thus failed twice. (which I hear isn’t all that uncommon). thetalltexan

    I think the influence of the Kennedy family has waned significantly and is overstated these days. Caroline Kennedy will probably not ever be a serious contender in any Senate election, and I don’t believe she ever had much of a chance to be appointed by Patterson. And look how influential Ted Kennedy’s endorsement of Obama was in the Massachusetts Democratic Primary. Hillary beat him handily. TJ
