I’ve recently gotten into drawing lots of pencil drawings, horses to be specific.

What tools can I use to blend and smooth my drawings? I usually just use a finger but it isn’t exactly the best tool.

No, finger blending is not that great of a tool at all. Your fingers contain oils that will get into your paper and make it blotchy looking when you shade/adjust tones over these areas. I’d recommend getting some blending stumps. Blending stumps are pencil shaped and made from felt. They yield smooth blending. Otherwise another option for you is to use regular ALOE FREE tissues. I use them all the time for blending graphite. I hope that helps :)

a drawing instructor showed me this and it works quite well. you know those industrial paper towels you might find in school restroom? (actually normal papertowel might work better) fold it in half twice, twirl the towel toward one corner. twist it hard to get it tight. use the pointed end. you can fold extra times to make a wider tool.

There are tools called tortillons that are specifically made for blending. You can buy or make your own. If you choose to make yours, this link will help:

Good luck and have fun drawing!
