I need to mark a woodland trail, but it is now impassable because of thick undergrowth of thorn bushes. Please recommend hand tools to help cut through them.

Machete. long flat blade with relatively dull edge but enough to whack plants with. Machetes are used in amazon jungle to get through though the vegetation grows back in a day. Luckily if your in a temperate zone you won’t have to cut that often.
Machete shouldn’t be more than $6 at local hardware store. Excellent tool. Used the world over.

Don’t use a “handtool”. Instead, use a chainsaw. Trust me on this. It will do what you want with far less hassle.

Quick, sudden and sharp karate chops will do the trick.

    Bruce Lee

A machette. Make sure its very, very sharp. No use going to work on a trail with an oversized ruler in your hand.

    seriously staked goats.
if you insist on doing that hard work get a brush hook and keep it sharp.
where to get one, call the us forest service. it is a very effective forest fire fighting tool, and i have never seen one in a store.
