definitely screwdrivers. Don’t forget your ESD wristband.

  4. jonathanwash says:

Screw drivers, allen wrenches, knife, multimeter, anti-static band, and a sledgehammer

  5. Likini Solutions says:

Screwdrivers - At least 2 sizes of Phillips and Flat head’s.

Needle Nosed Pliers (useful for those miniature jumper straps used on hard disks and expansion cards)

Nut Drivers - A couple of common sizes

“Pickup Device” - a long probe with a magnet on the end for picking up screws and nuts that have fallen into inaccessible places.

    Wire Cutters & Strippers

Crimping Tool (if you plan on making or fixing Ethernet or Telephone cables)

Inspection Mirror & Magnifying Glass to see things!

    Small (perhaps LED) flashlight

Other useful tools that don’t exactly qualify as “hand tools” would be a soldering iron, de-soldering vacuum and a small digital multimeter.

Very few tools are needed, some good screwdrivers or nut drivers, a static wrist strap, (but if you’re careful you can work without it). A pair of long nose needle pliers, some flat screwdrivers.

Solder irons, voltmeters (throw them out, you don’t need them),

Probably the most useful tool is a power supply tester. They range from 10 to 15 dollars. If you suspect a bad on/off switch you don’t need a meter to check it, just remove the connector and then short across the pins with your needle nose pliers to see if the computer will turn on.

You might want to include a pair of magnifying glasses.
