The emmense variety of techniques and style almost forbids a serious answer.

More than anything you need fresh local food and frsh spices.

Alot would depend on what your planning to cook. Investing in good knives, thermometers, other utensils are all good ideas.

A GOOD knife (I use Henkels), a good stainless steel skillet and only the freshest ingredients. I also couldn’t live without my pepper grinder.

My home kitchen has everything found in a commercial kitchen.
I have a complete set of knives, spoons, ladles, spoodles, pots, pans, (i preferr cast iron over anything to cook in) mixing bowls, stove and oven, I even built a brick bread oven in my back yard, spatulas, small deep fryer, pressure cooker, griddle, grill, etc.
ok ok I like my kitchen gadgets, I wont name any others I have.
