Is the Democratic Party only using Blacks as a political tool just to gain power?

Me asked:

During US slavery many Blacks owned slaves thanks to the Democratic Party. During slavery there was also 0% unemployment until the Republican Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation.

Isn’t it ironic today that whites and Republicans are labeled the oppressors, when history shows that Blacks owned slaves, sold slaves, and it was the slave abolitionist who voted Republican.

Why then is Whitey and the Republican Party labeled the racist? Is the Democratic Party just using Blacks as a political tool to gain power like they have done for centuries?
Can you quote what part of my question sounds racist?

What has the Democrat party done for blacks?

The Democrats simply pander to the blacks every 4 years and then forget about them ’till next election. Johnny Sokko

They used them as slaves until the Republicans freed them. Then the Democrats lynched them until the Republicans passed Civil Rights legislation. Then the Democrats put them in “da hood” and tell them they are stupid and throw them a few pennys to keep them “in there place” ME

You sound so stupid. Blacks owned slaves during that time to help each other for the most part. And it wasn’t employment, they were used as if they were equipment and machinery. And at that time, the Republican Party was the dominant party among blacks, so they haven’t always been racist. Only the extreme right leaning ones can be considered racist, sexist, and they only support rich oil and tax cuts only for the rich. DeAndre

Your comment that there was 0% unemployment under slavery is historicially incorrect and demonstrates the shallowness of your entire post.

No one would argue that many members of the Democratic Party did not own slaves, or that the Republicans were the Party that opposed slavery during (and immediately prior to) the Civil War. But what is your point? This is 2010, not 1961. Michael N

Things started to change in the early 20th century. Democrats started to support social safety nets and bare minimum standards for Americans, blacks included. Republicans opposed these ideas.

Blacks overwhelmingly supported FDR and even more LBJ after the Civil Rights act. The Democrats have never lost this support.

During the 1950’s and 1960’s, many Republicans supported segregation. It was William Buckley who called the “white race more advanced”. This line of thinking appealed to many Dixicrats and after the passage of the CRA, many of them moved over to the Republican party.

To this day, Republicans are trying to dismantle social safety nets and policies that strengthen the lower and middle class, which many blacks are apart of. Republicans tend to cater the upper 1% of society with their policies, in which many blacks are not apart of. I hate onions

Since JFK the Democratic party left the working people and is selling its wares to the blacks and Latinos. See, by pandering to the minorities, they get the vote of the poor by promising them the sun, the moon and the stars and what do they get? Nothing when you look at it.

I don’t like politicians as a whole because most cant or wont tell the truth, but one thing is sure, Kennedy was a conservative and believed that we the People needed more of our own money instead of giving it to big Government.
