i have NO idea what to get my dad for Christmas?
a little about him: he is 66, retired Road Construction worker(he did it for over 40yrs) he is still a farmer, he lives a simple life, he has cancer so his weight had changed and keeps chaining so its kinda hard to buy him clothes, and he has so many clothes already, he never throws anything away. he really has no hobbies but his farm and my uncles farm, and watching the price is right. he doesn’t need tools, he is diabetic so i guess sugar free candy would be an idea, but i want something else to go with it. and am at a total loss. he doesn’t golf, and not really into sports. thanks!
the only music he listens to is the local country station. he just bought a new pickup and doesnt use the CD player and really seems to have no desire too.
we got him some cologne one year and he didn’t use it. he says he only likes old spice or wild stetson..(or something like that)

Have you thought about getting something for his taste in music?
I got my dad a collection of albums from a singer he really liked and he listens to it all the time
McGraw cologne!!! I got my step-dad McGraw cologne… just ’cause.
Well for Christmas, I bought my dad this nice little candle holder with a really nice quote on it. I think it said, “I loved you then, I love you still, I love you always and always will.” Or something like that. Knick knacks are always great for people who are hard to buy for.
How about an interesting book? a biography maybe? umm…maybe a nice watch or something, and have it engraved with a short message?
Same problem on my end.
My father has no hobbies except working, investments, and watching TV.
He likes sports but I wouldn’t consider him a “fan.”
I bought him a pair of slippers and a pellet gun (for getting rid of the deer in his yard) and I must admit they were very boring gifts.
Maybe just purchase him some comfort items this xmas.
a box of sugar-free candies and the price is right on DVD, that’d be a cool present.
Weather toys? Nifty wireless thermometers, rain gauges, and whatever else you think he’s technologically up for. That seems to be about all anyone can ever come up with for my dad, who sounds quite similar.
Otherwise. . . food? People who seem to have everything they need still have to eat. Any idea what he normally likes to eat? That’s not necessarily a “cool” gift, but you know he’d use it.
Maybe some kind of flashlight or wind-up battery-free flashlight for power outages or maybe some kind of lamp that comes on with a remote control. I’m thinking about things that might be helpful if he comes home to a dark house or if he has to get up in the middle of the night. Maybe a night light if he doesn’t have an adequate one.
Does he have a foot rest to use when he’s not sitting in his favorite recliner? A spot with foot rest to use when putting on shoes & socks? Does that favorite recliner have a place for putting the remote & a TV Guide or other magazine? Does anyone work jigsaw puzzles with him?
Does he have warm socks & hat & gloves & scarf to wear when he’s walking around the farm? What about comfy houseshoes?
Does he have a subscription to Reader’s Digest? What about the large print version? How about Science Digest or Popular Mechanics? What about cartoon books like Bizarro or Far Side or other favorite? Or something that goes along with watching Antiques Roadshow on TV.
Once I gave my mom a small book of reprints from the old Norman Rockwell magazine covers. Sometimes they’re humorous & real treasures. Also, I got her a couple of books of old Irish toasts. (and the same for myself because they were real treasures.) You might find similar things for other cultures, unless you’ve already used up that type of idea. Also, you may find a rack of those booklets listing prices & presidents & such things for a particular year & can pick out one for your dad’s h.s. graduation year or other memorable year. I know that some of these things are read and later junked, but at least they show a little thought & caring.
Other than that, I’m blanking out. What about movies? Does he have a VCR or DVD player? Does he have it figured out, how to cope with the change in TV broadcasting in Feb?
What about a collage of family photos? He probably still likes to talk about family members & show off the photos when visitors stop by.
Good luck. I agree that men are often tough to shop for, but even though they claim they don’t want or need a thing, I’m sure they enjoy a little attention & just the evidence that you care.
personalized something would be good. Does he drink coffee? You can have a picture of the 2 of you printed on a mug from Snapfish.com or a t-shirt with a picture of a favorite event or person printed on it. Parents always like pictures of their kids!!!
