My ex now wants “his” stuff? Can I be arrested for not giving in back?
A few years ago I took out loans and used credit cards to buy tools, computer, and a truck for a joint construction business with my ex. I quit my job, he left for another girl, took all of it, and left me with all the bills. It didn’t work out with his other girl and came crawling back to me. So I re-acquired his stuff. Again, I lost my job (contract work) & he left, leaving everything at my house. I asked him to remove his things in 30 days and agreed to give him more time, if he helped me fix up the house (which he tore apart before leaving) or with the payments. He didn’t and made no attempt to get his things. It’s been 3 months with no word from him and he’s irate because I won’t give it to him right now.
Can he have me arrested? We weren’t married, but do live in a community property state. I’m not worried about court since I have receipts and IRS statements showing I bought all of it and feel confident that any idiot could see that he was just using me.
I don’t want to give it back because I still owe a lot of money to creditors for it and can sell it to make a payment. I also have no problems giving it back, if he takes over the payments.
I forgot to mention..I looked into suing him the first time. The lawyer said there wasn’t anything I could do to recoup my losses because he could say it was a gift and since he doesn’t work, there isn’t any money to get from him if I did win the case. (he owes more than the small claims limit so we need lawyers)
How can I find a job after just being released from Federal Prison after 15 yrs? I was a business owner before?
I haven’t had a paying job in almost 35 years. I’m very good with repair tools . I am too old to start a construction job.(53 Yrs.) I have no money or connections where I live.
lawyers only , please?
i quit my job recently to work for a better company. i work in the construction trades as a tradesmen. i needed to quit my job abruptly so that the company that i was going to work for wouldnt fill the job that i was applying for. now, the company that i used to work for is refusing to pay me for the vacation pay that i have coming saying that i didnt give them 2 weeks notice , so therefore, they dont have to pay me for that vacation pay. now in the company manual it states that they would like to have at least 1 week notice upon terminating your employment there and it doesnt say anything about holding back any pay if you dont comply. i didnt give them any notice that i was quitting. i went there to pick up some of my tools and left immediately. they owe me about $3000.00 for the vacation days that i have coming . if it wasnt a significant amount i really wouldnt care but 3 grand is alot of money for me. can they do what they are doing legally?

Hi it’s not the money it’s the principle , plus why would anyone want to give a employer a power of attorney much less an ex employer. I don’t know these people from Adam. They want this signed and notarized. Thanks for your interest Gypsy
And after careful thought I guess what really nags me the most is as I think John Wayne would put it best, ( Now Pilgrim just who the Hell are you to tell me to press one for English or Wave Any Rights as a American we may have left. ) Gypsy & out

Free health care for all. what do you think?
The problem with free health care is, it’s never really free, one thing is if everyone had free health care, illegal immigrants would be you doctors and the tools would be construction equipment : / free health care for everyone is not the way to go.
let me know what you think!
What should i do? Person i know was robbed?
So someone i know was robbed. I guess someone had been watching him and broke into his truck and stole his tools(he’s a construction worker) but he didn’t report it to the cops cuz he wants to catch these people that robbed him. He thinks they’ll come back for more of his stuff. I’m very worried and thought about letting the cops know but i don’t know if i should. What can i do?

Landlord caused paint damage to my car?
My landlord unexpectedly started construction on our house. The workers tore off the siding and painted the house white. The only problem is the spray tool they used blew tiny white paint spots all over my red car that was parked in the driveway.
I’m going to talk to my landlord about it today and show him the car. What should I say and how can I expect him to handle it? What rights do I have in the situation? Thank you!
this is wrong—-Malaysia on trafficking blacklist —-please read what is the truth?
Malaysia has been relegated to a list of countries with the worst records in dealing with human trafficking, according to the US State Department’s annual “Trafficking in Persons” report.
It joined the ranks of those who failed to meet the minimum standards for the elimination of “modern day slavery”, said the report released on Tuesday.
In the report, Malaysia and 15 others were placed on Tier 3, the category used to rank non-compliant governments who also failed to take significant efforts to meet the minimum standards.
Blacklisted countries - including Myanmar, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and North Korea - are subject to US sanctions.
The authors of the US report said Malaysia failed to prosecute and punish traffickers, to provide adequate shelters and services to victims, or to afford protection from “involuntary servitude” - effectively slave labour.
‘Stronger will’
The government was also cited for not prosecuting traffickers already detained under preventive laws.
“The Malaysian government needs to demonstrate stronger political will to tackle Malaysia’s significant forced labour and sex trafficking problems,” the report said.
Malaysian government officials contacted by Al Jazeera on Wednesday were unavailable for comment on the report’s findings.
The Southeast Asian country was previously on the Tier 2 watch list meant for close scrutiny, along with India, Mexico and Russia.
Nations that meet what the state department says are minimum standards are placed under Tier 1 while Tier 2 is for those making significant efforts to do so.
The report said Malaysia had yet to establish a government-run shelter for foreign trafficking victims despite public announcements in 2004 and 2006.
“Without procedures for the identification of victims, the government continued to treat some trafficking victims as illegal immigrants, and arrest, incarcerate, and deport them,” it added.
‘Serious efforts’
Malaysia has passed the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act this year giving it a significant potential tool to effect anti-trafficking reforms.
But the report said Malaysia still needed to show “a serious increase in efforts to punish trafficking crimes and to identify and protect trafficking victims over the coming year.”
Malaysia also has yet to ratify the United Nations Trafficking in Persons Protocol 2000.
The report said women and girls mainly from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and China were trafficked into the sex trade.
Malaysia was also accused of subjecting economic migrants to conditions of forced labour as domestic workers, or in the agricultural, construction or industrial sectors.
In 2006, a memorandum of understanding with Indonesia authorised Malaysian employers to hold the passports of Indonesian women hired as domestic help, a practice which the report says can lead to involuntary servitude.
NYC residential construction noise law?
I recently moved into an apartment which is right next to a residential construction site. I would have no problems with this, besides the fact that they are beginning super early (6:30 AM at times) and it is really beginning to take its tool on my productivity. I am so exhausted at work because I have been waking up at 6:30 (I don’t have to be to work until 10!). I vaguely remember upon signing my lease with my building owner (who also is a lawyer, mind you) that he said it wouldn’t start before 9, but I did not get this in writing. Does anyone know of any noise ordinance laws regarding residential construction sites? Thanks so much for any help!
