My husband had his tool-box stolen while at a job site. Bad thing about it besides the loss of it and the tools was that he also had his weekly check in CASH in it. Debit card and drivers license as-well. We called and reported the debit card and had it canceled. Had the police come and filed a report, but we want to know if we can file on any insurance. The tool box was in the house that they were working on. This was new construction so there was no door knobs or locks. It was left for 1 hour on the kitchen counter top. The cash is the most important being that it is our means or paying bills. Any legal advise would be highly appreciated. Or if you have been threw this. Please no responses about it’s your loss.
He does know it isbad to have that much cash on hand but this week his boss paid him that morning in cash, and he rode with another worker so he couldn’t lock it in his truck. They only left to take or get some tools from the shop sad thing is that it only takes a min for someone to walk in and take his tool box. The police questioned neighbors and found out this happened to them as-well while they were having their home built. Or to the workers I should say. It sickings me that people can be like this and steal rather they knew the cash was in there or not. My hub works hard for what he makes and now we have to suffer.

BUT asked:

i took out a loan five years ago which ends next month. it was with lloyds for 5000 over 5 years.
they told me that i could’nt have the loan unless i tool out the payment insurance. even though i explained to them that the nature of my work with a construction agency, meant that if i lost my job or i was sick for any length of time the insurance wouldnt pay out any way.
so 5 years on and i’ve got one payment left. i’ve never missed a payment and am still with the same firm. the insurance cost me just over £1100. i can’t help thinking that i was bullied into getting the insurance even though i tried to tell them i didnt want it.

I hire friends to help my company set up event sites. I am incorporated and have each sign a contract stating that they are not employees and are free to work for whom ever. They must use their own tools and know the field.

My main question here is we are not a construction company building houses. BUT if these guys get hurt I want to protect all my assets. I have heard of OCC/ACC but does this cover me if something should happen. Is this enough protection that I don’t ever need to worry about someone saying they should have been employees on workmen;s comp. In this field no one is an EE. These guys will work for two companies at the same time. I have General Liability insurance but they just charged me a huge fee for hiring unlicensed, uninsured contractors. I’m trying to do everything I can to do it right. Will this insurance work? HELP!!! ASAP!!!

I am self employed, trailer was my tool trailer, all tools are damaged and trailer is totaled. I cant work! Should I exspect wage loss and also a inconveince settlement? I was working at the time in my basement but was not in the trailer at the time of impact.

I’m just looking for a general estimate. It will be for a new construction home (approximately 2,000 sq ft) valued at about $200,000 once complete. It’ll be in a subdivision in a non-flood zone in semi-rural southeast Louisiana. I don’t have time to call around for quotes right now, and none of the online rate quote tools have info. for my zip code.
Thanks for the info. I didn’t mean to ask twice - my first question was mistakenly deleted.
Thanks everyone for the info, but I was finally able to find what I needed on the state dept. of insurance website. It has a long list of companies that offer HOI and rate comparisons. It looks like I’ll easily be able to get coverage for around $1,500 a year or less. Thanks again for your help.

I am running a virtual office for a new construction company. Along with defining the company image, I need to help them network. What is the process for becoming an insurance approved construction company? Should I just begin by contacting each company on an individual basis? Or is there a site for general information? Thank you.
