My construction company subs out certain jobs and I have employees that want to do these jobs.On there own time with there own tools. Why can’t I pay them on 1099?
Seems like it should be legal in my case. The sub work is contracted out. It just happens to also be a part time employee that occasionally bids on them.

i’ve seen people in the construction field that have no clue what they are doing. for example in this one job a guy had his tool pouch with every tool you can imagine. once given a little project he had no clue how to begin. he did move alot, but just in circles.lol have you got your self into a job that you had some idea and tried to convince everyone you knew what you were doing.

How and where and what do we do to get into this??

Should I go back to roofing or get an office job again?

James B asked:

They changed my schedule at work again and it is horrible. I hate working graves and weekends; it is not good for my social life.

In any case I have a choice of going back to doing roofing and finishing my apprenticeship or looking for a managerial office job to make what I am making now (17/hr).

The office job will take me longer to find. The roofing work is easy to find cuz I have a truck, my own tools and experience. I could go become a foreman at $30/hr eventually too, the only downside is that it is dangerous and the cold/rainy weather 1/3 -1/2 the year blows.

On top of that I am in school for BS in Business Admin and should go back into the office world to make use of my degree once I graduate. On the other hand I hate to throw two years of apprenticeship in construction away when I am so close to finishing it.

I know that the office thing is easier, but I have this gut feeling that the roofing is a good move, what to do?
+ I am proud to know a trade. My friends work at temp agencies and low end jobs. I like the fact that I can go in at 17-20/hr and have a skill. When people ask me what I do, I am proud to tell them I am a roofer. I am not proud telling them what I do now even though the money is good.
Thanks, I am going to law school to become an attorney after undergrad but I need something that pays until then.

Audio/Visual Job: 1999-2005
Start: $10.00hr End: $12.61hr

Plumbing Jobs: Dec 2006-Present
1st) $10.00hr Starting and Ending
2nd) Start: $11.00hr End: $12.00hr
3rd) Start: $11.00hr End: $12.00hr

My Audio/Visual experience yielded skills which can be used in Plumbing. Ex…I learned how to work with tools and some basic construction skills along with how to work in construction environments.

I have been in Plumbing now for one and a half years.

I am sick to death of being pushed back when I take a new job and want to get to $14.00 an hour. This is where I feel I should be at this point.

I have just joined the Plumbing Union and fear that the employer will try this $11-12hr garbage on me.
