My daughter was accidently burned with a glue gun when her friend put it down on top of her hand without looking. AND THEN!!……..another friend-whose mother is the highschool nurse- told my daughter that if she didn’t cut the skin off she would get a terrible infection. My daughter said she didn’t want to but 1) figured the girl knew what she was talking about-being the nurses daughter, etc. and 2) didn’t want to get an infection! SO….she let her cut the skin off of the burn!! with scissors from a cup in the tech room!!!!! (Yes, we’ve since had a major discussion regarding not letting friends, enemies, aquaintances, or anyone without the proper credentials and my permission! cut, remove, sever, etc. ANY part of her body, etc.- but I’m sure I left SOMETHING out) Now, I know that kids will be kids and do things like that but what really bothers me is that it was done right in front of the tech teacher next to his desk!!! This is the person that is supervising my child and 10-15
other kids with power saws, drills etc. The nurse just told me that there have been quite a few injuries coming from there lately. Five burns in one day!! The day my daughter got burned. I believe that perhaps there isn’t enough supervision and not enough understanding on the part of the children (12 year olds) about the power to injure quickly and that they- the tools- have. When I was a kid these kind of things were used by highschool kids- not middle schoolers. What do you think?
Sorry about the second part of the question not being there when people first started answering it. The injuries other than the burns are punctures and cuts. It took me some time to finish the explanation part after using the 1000 characters, I had to submit it and then edit it to continue. My daughter had her hand on the table but I don’t think it was due to not paying attention. She uses glue guns, knives, curling iron, stove, etc. at home. You never know what the other children have experience with that your kids go to school with and so I was wondering if since there is only one teacher in there, are average 12 year olds mature enough to handle things like that.
Drinkin your milkshake………………..read the question please.
