Can crabgrass be removed with a power rake or any other tool while still in its growing state?
Trinibuff asked:
I am suggesting that my husband go out and pluck the crab grass by hand but he keeps wanting to power rake. I really don’t think that power raking will work. What do you think?

Sorry to tell you that the power raking will not remove the crab grass. I pulled all of mine out by hand 2 years ago…it took a month. Right after I finished, someone told me about a spray which will kill weeds and crabgrass, but not the lawn!
Sooo, at the first sign of new crabgrass, I am on patrol with my spray! It is made by Scotts and is called “Ortho Weed Be Gone Plus Crabgrass Killer. Here is a link to “Epinions” where many people have made their comments:
I did not get the concentrate that needs to be mixed. First I bought one spray bottle for about $5.00 to test it, then bought a gallon size pre-mix with a trigger sprayer attachment.
I cannot recommend it more highly! It sure beats pulling it by hand!
Be sure to put down crabgrass preemergant next spring….the proper time is when the forsythia are blooming in your neighborhood. Keep the lawn mowed to a depth of about 3″…that will help prevent weed seeds from germinating too.
Good luck!!! catherine02116
