Dave asked:

What you you folks think about having a lineup like this?? All these guys can hit for average, hit for power, and can steal a base anytime… these are all based on 2007 stats.

1B: Derrick Lee (CHC) .317 BA, 22 HR, 82 RBI, 7 SB

2B: Brandon Phillips (CIN) .288 BA, 30 HR, 94 RBI, 32 SB

SS: Jimmy Rollins (PHI) .296 BA, 30 HR, 94 RBI, 41 SB

3B: Alex Rodriguez (NYY) .314 BA, 54 HR, 156 RBI, 24 SB

OF: Eric Byrnes (ARZ) .286 BA, 21 HR, 83 RBI, 50 SB

OF: Grady Sizemore (CLE) .277 BA, 24 HR, 78 RBI, 33 SB

OF: Curtis Granderson (DET) .302 BA, 23 HR, 74 RBI, 26 SB

C: Russell Martin (LAD) .293 BA, 19 HR, 87 RBI, 21 SB

Bench: Ian Kinsler (TEX) .263 BA, 20 HR, 61 RBI, 23 SB
Bench: BJ Upton (TAM) .300 BA, 24 HR, 82 RBI, 22 SB
Bench: David Wright (NYM) .325 BA, 30 HR, 107 RBI, 34 SB
Bench: Corey Hart (MIL) .295 BA, 24 HR, 81 RBI, 23 SB

Give me your best five-tool team and I’ll choose the best one…
Hey Eric… you don’t think that a .288 batting average is good?? You’re an idiot.
Sorry… I meant Jeff
chrisguy… I totally forgot about H-Ram!! He was on my list that I had and meant to put him at SS and Rollins on the bench!! DOH!
Jake K… Ellsbury I don’t think can be a 30HR threat… 15, maybe even 20 yes… but definitely not 30.

Great list, I don’t think I could think of a replacement that would better the ones you’ve included.

    Great job.

When I look at the 1st base slot, it reminded me that Jeff Bagwell went 30/30 twice (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/bagweje01.shtml)

Ivan Rodriguez stealing 25 bases and socking 35 taters in his MVP year.(http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/rodriiv01.shtml)

Ryne Sandberg was one of only a couple of guys who had career highs of at least 40 home runs and 50 steals. (Bonds and Brady Anderson). Soriano also had 3 30/30 seasons at 2B and 1 40/40 season in the OF.

    Howard Johnson hitting 30/30 3x as a 3B(http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/johnsho01.shtml)

Arod’s has the only 40/40 season on the infield as a SS.

Can’t put an OF together without honour the two other 40/40 guys, Bonds (5x) and Canseco

According to OPS, the most successful 30/30 season was Larry Walker’s MVP year of 97.

One of the early on most impressive ones for me was Eric Davis, who had hit 27 HRs and 80 SB the year before and got 37 hrs and 50 SB in 87. The amazig thing is he did it in 129 games, which would have translated into a 46/63 season over 162 games.

Edit: I don’t know anyone who has ever suggest that Ellsbury could be a 30 hr threat.
1, 7 and 2 hrs were his last 3 minor league seasons. brettj666

The only changes I would make would be to put Upton and Beltran in the OF instead of Byrnes and Granderson. Beltran is a better base stealer than Granderson. Carlos averages 30 steals/162 G for his career while Granderson only averages 15. I also added a few to the bench and listed some guys that could very well be on the team in a year or two. I also came very close to putting Hanley at SS over Rollins.
